1953 Gibson GA-40 Les Paul Vintage Tube Guitar Amp in about as good of condition as we’ve seen with these. The tolex is pretty clean, as can be seen in the pictures.
It sounds great at high and low volumes. No unwanted hum or buzz. We believe it was made either late 1953 or early 1954.
We are the third owner of this amp and simply acquired it to help the second owner sell, so you’d pretty much be the third owner to take possession of this beauty. The original owner barely used it, while the second only for occasional use in his home. It has not been exposed to the elements, and there are no foul odors or unwanted surprises. It just smells vintage, lol.
It has the original speaker, footswitch, and we believe all the tubes are original but could be wrong on the last point. The grill cloth is partially torn at the bottom but can only really be seen when standing over the amp. The tolex shows minor wear but again is about as clean as we’ve seen.
It was serviced in 2003 and again in 2021. The output transformer has been replaced along with several caps. The two-prong cord has been replaced with a three-prong for safety. We have the receipt from repair work in 2021 along with a wiring diagram and some other interesting paperwork. This is the extent of our knowledge of the amp. We won’t be opening it up to provide gut shots.
