Beautiful 1962 Gibson SG Special in very good condition, first and foremost: No breaks! Not at the headstock, not at the heel, not at the input jack – very rare due to the fragile construction of these early SGs.
The finish is faded like you would expect on a early 60ies SG, but just to a right degree, so it doesn`t look to brownish, perfect amount of mojo!
Featherlight, just 3075 gramms, nice junky neck, nice dark brazilian rosewood board, original frets in good condition, this thing sounds massive and is set up very good.
Overall it is in great condition for over 60 years, but like most vintage guitars, there are some slight modifications which might scare the collector, but add a ton of useability for the player:
– Tuners where swapped for a very nice set of kluson double line types with gibson logo, probably from the mid 60ies
– The guitar had some sort of vibrola tremolo system once (i dont know if factory or not), but was fitted with a badass wraparound. There yre four tiny filled holes on the top, see the pics. The badass bridge provides better tuning stability and lets you set intonation and action right.
– There was a little bit of woodwork done in the bridge pickup cavity – i don`t know why, since the original pickup is in there and there was no reason for it, but it was like that when i got the guitar.
– The original strap pins are no longer on the guitar, comes with Schaller strap-lock style pins
– I do not have a original case, it comes with a new standard rectangular case for safe shipping as pictured.
All these small issues make it a bit more affordable than a 100% stock one, which makes it a great opportunity for someone who is looking for a killer sounding vintage Gibson with no breaks or other major issues, without breaking the bank.
