1974 Fender Jazzmaster Vintage Guitar Sunburst Collector-Grade w/ Case, Hangtags

$1,964.37

Up for sale, a 1974 Fender Jazzmaster in collector-grade, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hangtags and hardshell case. Hailing from an era where very few Jazzmasters were produced, this alder-bodied guitar is particularly lightweight and acoustically resonant at only 7lbs 9oz. The original gray bobbin single coil pickups have plenty of percussive sparkle and treble detail, while also being wound hotter and warmer-sounding than most Fender single coils. The neck pickup is meaty and smooth, and when engaging the Rhythm Circuit on the guitar’s bass side body horn, the guitar offers a darker set of tonalities perfect for thickening up your sound. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar and freshly restrung with 11-49 strings, this Jazzmaster is ready for stage and studio use.

The one-piece maple neck has a chunky C-shaped profile carve with full shoulders and light birdseye figuring on both sides of the headstock. The profile measures .865″ deep at the 1st fret and .925″ at the 12th. The bound rosewood fretboard features pearloid block inlay and a 7 1/4″ radius, with original medium fretwire that retains its full factory height, showing only very light wear on the crowns of frets 1-7. The guitar plays cleanly up the 25 1/2″ scale, and the neck is straight with a responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The nut measures 1 5/8″ in width, and the headstock has a block “Jazzmaster” logo and chrome-plated “F” tuners. Various factory stamps are present on the neck heel and in the pocket.

On the body, all of the electronics work as they should, with original pickups that both retain their original winds and have 1974 stamps on the gray fiber bobbins. The Stackpole pots date between late 1973 and ’74, and the body routes are untouched, with the original brass shielding tubs and pickup foam (augmented by additional new foam). The original pickup covers and witch hat knobs are bright white with virtually no aging, and the “meatball” nitrate tortoise pickguard is exceedingly clean with a glossy look and minimal shrinkage. The chrome plating on the hardware is near-mint, and the vibrato actuates very smoothly, complete with the original arm.

The gloss three-tone Sunburst finish is remarkably well-kept, with some finish scratches localized on the back of the bass-side body horn. There is similarly localized wear on the back lower bout body edge, and only a few additional minor dings and finish scratches on the body as a whole. The gloss finish on the neck profile is flawless.

The original black tolex hardshell case is included and equally as clean as the guitar, with a raised Fender logo on the lid, functional latches and the original handle. The original polish cloth, hangtag, string packs and additional tags are included.
