This 1974 SG is a great guitar – super light, great playing, and whole lot of fun.
It’s a really versatile instrument, but I’ve used it most for heavier Electric Wizard, Sabbath, stoner adjacent garage stuff.
Serial number shows up at as 1974 or 1975, but pot codes date it to 1974.
Tuners, nut, fret, pickups, rings, bridge, tailpiece, knobs, thumb bleeders are original. Pretty sure strap buttons and selector switch are as original as well, but take that with a grain of salt. Input jack looks replaced to me.
Pickups are the original “tarback” Gibson’s and I love them – I have a set in an ES-347. At some point they were taken out and reinstalled. So solder joints in the control cavity are not original, and there is a shot that a couple of the pots could have been replaced. I’m unable to see the dates on two of them. All pots function like they should.
Neck pickup ring is cracked in the top right corner, but is secure/not floppy when installed like normal.
Plenty of small impressions, picking swirls, nips, dings, and signs of general normal use across the guitar. Larger piece of missing finish on the back of the neck, towards the middle.
As pictured there is some checking on the back of headstock also. The guitar was sold to me as *NOT* having had a headstock break. I was skeptical when I bought the guitar because of the location of the finish checking. But sure enough! nce I’m convinced that my seller was being honest and there was no break beyond the finish checking. On one side of the neck you’ll see darker spots – both are mineral streaks and the finish above them is original and unchecked. The checks in the finish that are visible are very thin and show zero signs of repair or touch up.
Original hard shell case is included too, but it’s not going to offer any kind of serious protection.
