1980’s Fender Custom Shop Prototype Employee Build Ghost Pickup Telecaster Fred Stuart White circa 1989. Here we have something you don’t see every day, a Fender Custom Shop Employee Built Telecaster made by Fred Stuart sometime in the 1980’s. Per the included letter of provenance the guitar was built by Fred Stuart when he worked in the Fender Custom shop for Chuck Stewart who played in a band with Fred. The coolest thing about this one is the “ghost” Jazzmaster style pickup underneath the pickguard with the pole pieces cut into the pickguard effectively making the guitar look like an Esquire. The neck date is November 1st 1984 but per Fred’s explanation the guitar was put together later in the decade. Currently the guitar is wired with a 4 way switch, volume pot and tone pot which makes the guitar pretty versatile and sounds fantastic plugged in but we are not entirely sure if this is how it was wired when it left the Custom Shop. The neck pickup reads 8.40K and the bridge pickup reads 9.89K. The neck is a super fast thin C profile and the guitar weighs in at 8 lbs 5.6 oz. The guitar comes as shown with a reissue brown Tolex case, letter of provenance, photo of Fred Stuart holding the guitar and an old repair tag for Chuck Stewart from 2004 but no additional items.
