1987 Fender Telecaster Thinline ‘70 Vintage Reissue TN70-75 Mahogany w/ Case, Japan MIJ Fujigen

$1,249.34

Up for sale, a 1987 Fender Telecaster Thinline ‘70 vintage reissue model TN70-75 in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. This rare, upper-tiered “Made in Japan” Tele was crafted at the venerable Fujigen factory during the golden age of Fender Japan production, designed for sale only to the domestic Japanese audience.

The Thinline TN70-75 model features a semi-hollow mahogany body, with a feel and tonal characteristics that truly capture the spirit and sound of a genuine vintage example. There’s plenty of the Tele’s traditional bite, twang, and clarity on tap, as well as a warmth and smooth note attack due to the body wood and semi-hollow construction. This Tele will growl and cut like few can, while being extremely easy on the back at only 6lbs 6oz. We’ve had this Tele Thinline professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.

The one-piece maple neck has a slender C-shaped profile carve with just enough roundness in the shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .810” deep at the 1st fret and .880” at the 12th. The fretboard has a vintage-spec 7 1/4“ radius, and the stock slender fretwire exhibits wear beneath the plain strings on the crowns of frets 1-11 that becomes progressively lighter approaching the octave. This guitar plays cleanly up the 25 1/2“ scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The nut measures 1.650” (42mm) in width, carved from bone for optimal clarity and sustain. The headstock sports a block Telecaster logo, and the Kluson-style tuning machines turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch. The “Made in Japan” text is present above the four-bolt neck plate, and the neck heel and pocket have matching “TN70-75MAH” model stamps.

All of the electronics function as intended, with the pickups wired to the stock harness with untouched solder joints and full-size Japanese pots that date to July, ‘87. Hardware includes the chrome-plated knurled knobs and the “Pat. Pend” bridge base, which is embossed with the A-prefix serial number. Plastics comprise the switch tip and the dimensional, lightly aged two-ply white pearloid pickguard.

The rich transparent Walnut finish highlights subtle figuring parallel to the grain in the mahogany, with cosmetic wear limited to some light buckle rash on the back and a handful of minor nicks on the body as a whole, largely concentrated behind the bridge and on the bass-side upper bout on top. The neck profile retains its smooth ambered gloss.

The original tweed hardshell case with orange plush interior is included.
