Estate Find! An unplayed 1991 Gibson SG Jr. found left behind in the basement of a newly purchased home. After 30 years tucked away, a guitar collection once again sees the light of day. The home‘s previous owner had an extensive collection of SGs all made from 1990 and 1991. I was able to obtain two of them.
This guitar exhibits almost NO play wear. It was bought, put away, and forgotten. As you can see from the photos there is no fret wear or corrosion on the bridge. There are very few blemishes other than the common headstock checking commonly found from this era. The original owner moved the strap pin locations but I have moved them back to factory locations.
I gave it a thorough cleaning, fret board condition, basic fret polish, and a setup. The P-100 it came with was very low output and sounded offensively boring. So I mounted a soapbar David Allen Stray Cat P-90 to the Gibson dog ear base and retained the factory cover. A world of tonal improvement.
