Weber Fern 2006 – Sunburst


Serial Number 6273310, paper label is hand signed by Bruce Weber. Includes hard shell case. According to the Weber website: “Our most traditional and prestigious mandolin, the Fern is a perfect synthesis of heart-stopping tone and heirloom looks. Made with the finest of our select tone woods, our Fern brings unparalleled chop, sustain, and volume to any setting, whether it be a jam session or professional recording.

Here are the Fern mandolin specifications:  Body Type – Traditional F style body and neck.   Solid wood back, sides and neck is top grade flame maple. The top is solid wood – extremely tightly grained and with a considerable amount of cross silking; said top is hand graduated and tap tuned solid Red (Adirondack) spruce.  The finish color is called “Fern Burst,” and this model is finished in actual varnish.  The ebony fretboard is bound in ivoroid on all sides.   Said fingerboard has a double-cut extension hosting 7 “partial” frets.   The sides are bound in single ply ivoroid and so are the two body points; the top and the back are bordered in an addition circumscription of ivoroid and black, and so is the polished black headstock overlay.   The fingerboard is radiused; the nut width is 1 1/8th” tuners are made by Grover, having twin engraved gold plated backplates and 8 capstans with golden washers, with pearloid buttons.   The cast tailpiece cover is “Raised W” – for “Weber,” The scale length is 14 inches.
